Gina Sylvester

Instructor

Gina was welcomed into the Yanarella family (with jazz hands!) at the age of three, and is so excited to be joining the staff this year. Her studio roots run deep, as she danced in just about every class she could convince her mom to sign her up for from then, until the age of 17. Her favorite part of the Yanarella experience has been the many, many years dancing alongside friends, family members, and friends-turned-family-members. Gina completed her B.A. in Education at Iona College in New Rochelle, where she spent four years as the president of the Iona College Dance Team. College dance took her to many cool places, such as center court at Madison Square Garden and that one weird stint as the team mascot in a kickline routine (?!). She later received a dual M.S.Ed. in Special Education and Literacy, followed most recently by a M.S.Ed. in Educational Leadership. She currently works as an eighth grade ELA teacher in Orange County, NY, where her students are unsurprised, and quite accustomed to her random tap dance breaks and mid-day Broadway singalongs. Gina is most excited to be working with the team of teachers and staff at YSD she has looked up to and loved for so long. Her dance philosophy is, so long as you have the personality, your feet will follow! She is a firm believer that all really great performances happen when you are having FUN. A great wink in the middle of a number also helps 😉
